The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
