Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect behind a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, including the pastel suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

His passing follows just weeks after he unveiled his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her US tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world says farewell to a true visionary whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
