Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
