ð Share this article Adult Swim's Premier New Show of This Year Gets a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3. During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit. A Significant Investment In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters. "My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future." Network Praise The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its peculiarly charming style. "All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Comforting Counterpoint Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives. Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its long-running sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape. âThere's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,â said Cappa. âIt's like we have to know weâre the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.â The Path Forward Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan. The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
